Long time, new product

I haven't spoken about them in a minute but Influenster kept opting me in to campaigns I either couldn't participate in because of where I lived (products not available at the local branches of the stores they were were working with) or I was disinterested in entirely (like testing a product to help me quit smoking except I've never smoked).  So color me confused when a box arrived yesterday.  The box below to be specific.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE free things that make sense for my life and will happily report on them.  However, can't do that when things just aren't in my lane.  The box said it was fragile and there was liquid inside so yeah I was nervous.  But upon opening the box my fears were laid to rest because this was inside.

So I just realized that's a horrible photo but I'm tired and you aren't getting a new one right now ha.  It's Dark and Lovely Hair Hydrator with Rice Water Complex.  If this had been a different brand I may have rolled my eyes a bit but Dark and Lovely is a Black hair care line from way back.  Before anyone asks, no it is not Black owned anymore.  It's part of the L'oreal group of brands now but as far as I can tell unlike Shea Moisture or Carol's Daughter the Dark and Lovely brand has not tried to be super inclusive of every hair type.  That's important because it means they know their base and haven't lost focused on that target.  Ok moving on from that brief detour.  Looking at the ingredients in this product and it looks like something a natural hair having Black woman would probably use.  First ingredient is water and then there are a bunch of oils that I would or have mixed together with water to spray on my locs over the last few years.  The directions instruct you to use it daily, or as often as you would like, to keep your hair moisturized and encourage growth.  Since I just got it yesterday, today will be my first day using it and I will alternate between it and my own spray bottle of goodness to see if I notice a difference.  Regardless, you will get an update and this should prompt me to revisit my hair regimen especially over this winter which is intent on being cold with no snow which seems like a waste.

I'll update with my thoughts in a few weeks.  Have a great rest of Kwanzaa and happy New Year.

Influenster Goodies: Hair Care Herbal Essences biorenew

Hey folks so photos first for a change.  This is a quick post until I use the product.  Influenster sent me a new full size set of biorenew from Herbal Essences.  I haven't sniffed them yet but I was hoping for something that looked less heavy which to me means not a flower scent cause they are usually stronger.  I'll tell you how I like it and about the scent later.

Twilight Zone Marathons rock

So I logged on earlier with the intention of just giving a brief update on what's been happening and to of course go overboard with my happy for the tv show that makes all the random fireworks tolerable today.  Except when I got to my page things looked off.  Turns out Photobucket, who clearly is tired of giving away things for free, had replaced a few of my hosting images with one of their own saying that I needed to "update" my account in order to restore them.  So I click over to the site and look for something to update and there's squat.  I at that point am getting annoyed and start doing some searching before going directly to the website the image referenced.  In order to keep using the images as I had been the previous few years this blog has been active I would have to upgrade not update my account.  And that upgrade wasn't going to come cheap.  I had to be willing to shell out at least 40 bucks a month, or 400 annually woo two months free, to keep my links active in the way they had been.  Most of my images of my hair and stuff I upload directly to blogger so thankfully I wasn't losing a ton of stuff there but my divider bar, signature and a few things in the side bar were MIA.  I just had done some digging about other images and remembered I could embed the images in this site and just did that but then had to edit the HTML code.  Many cut and pastes, a random error that I had to look on how to fix and many saves to be safe and the page is mostly restored.  Some of the image tags for different posts will be absent until I go in to fix them but the page itself is good.

Influenster Updates: Slim Fast and new age Vaseline

I'm sure some of you know that I love Influenster because it gives me a chance to test products I probably wouldn't even know were out otherwise and in several cases I've been so impressed that I have added the product to my daily routine.  Over the last few months I've gotten two different VoxBoxes (what Influenster calls their test boxes) that I'm going to update you on now.

The first is the Vaseline Lip Tins that they have had on the market for a few months but that we got slightly ahead of the release.  There are several different kinds and I ended up with Aloe which I really like.  It's scented but very lightly and as soon as it hits my lips they feel nice and moisturized.  That's great considering the temperature around here has "warmed up" to 40 but can dip with the sun and any addition of wind so my lips are taking a beating.  The tin is pretty compact and if you slipped into your pocket you probably wouldn't notice it 90 percent of the time.  The only warning I could add is if you don't want your lips extra slick then keep it light on your lips before you test out the consistency.  All in all a good product and I like it better than the Vaseline stick.

Now the Slim Fast box was a more intriguing one.  There were several different products included: shake, snack bar, popcorn and chips.  The old shakes were not all that interesting to me so I was least excited about that addition but figured it would be worth a try eventually.  The baked chips were your standard healthy alternative to traditional fried chips but with more even distribution of flavor in the chips themselves.  They were actually pretty good on the calorie count (100 or less I believe) and there was a decent size serving.  I had the sour cream and onion so I can't comment on any other flavor.  It was decent but wouldn't be my go to snack compared to the popcorn which was delicious.  It was a caramel and coated popcorn and tasted kind of like Popcorn Indiana's offering in that line.  In short it was great and I was sad there was only one bag in the box.  The bar was equally good and the shake was okay but it hadn't improved enough that it would be a go to option either.  I think the entire line though could help those that are short on time add in healthy versions of products so you don't feel deprived of things while still remaining healthy or within your calorie count for the day.

Definite buy on the popcorn and bar but you may enjoy the chips and shake more than I did.  Still another great box from Influenster and I was happy to test it.

Product Review: Just Be Carefree!

This post is overdue but with the end of the semester and beginning of summer school (tomorrow) I've been a little tied up.  So as I'm mentioned to you before I sometimes get products for free from Influenster to review honestly.  It's a good gig and has introduced me to a few new products I love and wouldn't have known about otherwise.  Well, they sent me a sample of Carefree panty liners about six weeks ago which I can admit to being a little hesitant to try out.  I'm familiar with Carefree and they make good products but Always are my people lol.  When I received the box I have to say that hesitation grew.  The box was TINY which meant the product would likely be small as well.  Granted I'm on a weight loss kick but I kind of like having a liner that covers more than the dead center of my underwear which is why I have stuck with Always as they have an extra long liner that accommodates the rounder behind legion.

This is the size of the liner when it's sealed--which hey is great because you can tuck it in your purse easily.  I was nervous to put it politely and that nervousness didn't diminish when I opened up the liner.

The next two photos are of the liner on it's on and next to my normal liners.

But I'm a trooper and after shaking my head in disbelief for a day or so I tried them out.  Due to the aforementioned weight loss they were an ok fit in my size 6 undies, not at all great in the size 7s.  They held up well over the course of the day and were kind of unobtrusive which I guess is the point of them.  I don't know if I like them enough to forgo the Always liners at least not in their current size and thickness.  A little more length and padding and this would be a great go to product.

Influenster Moment: Neutrogena Hydro Boost

Howdy everyone.  I am late on this as with everything thanks to that week of crappy illness.  I received a sample of Neutrogena Hydro Boost to review from Influenster.com.  Y'all know I love the free stuff and Influenster so this was a win for me from jump.

I wasn't sure how big the box would be but when I opened the box up the first thing  I saw was this card.  For some reason I was being stupid or slow or something because even the image of the water didn't make me think of how the product would feel when I put it on my face.

The packaging itself is cute.  Pretty sturdy which I would know because I accidentally dropped it.  I followed the directions on the package and waited until I washed my face and went through my normal routine before I put this on my face as its more of a moisturizer finishing kind of step.  The product looks much thicker than it actually is when you apply it.

It looks more like water now that I'm looking at the photo again.  I mean the color not the texture.  It looked smooth and it smells great so I was excited about what it would feel like on my face.  Initially it felt kinda oily which was weird.  I think I just wasn't anticipating that it would be so slick on my face.  Immediately after that though my face felt like it was a little tighter and my skin was a little smoother.  The only thing that was a downside to the product for me as compared to my Clinique product was there's no SPF listed as being part of the product.  I'm not outside all day so it's not as crucial but it would definitely make a good product better.  You don't need very much of it to cover your face which is also a plusand it does feel very intensely moisturizing.  However, if you don't like strong--albeit pleasant--smells this could be a negative for you.  It mostly disappeared by the time I was done with my first class about four hours after I put it on but if you are hypersensitive to smells that could be a long time.  This could be an ideal winter product though because my skin never felt dry while this was on and the winter wind can be a bear.

All in all this is a good moisturizer and if you don't need an SPF rating on it you should definitely give it a shot.

Influenster SUPERstar!

Okay so yeah I have been an Influenster kind of girl for a while.  I read about the site on someone's blog and while I couldn't snag an invite from them, a few weeks after I initially tried to sign up I was sent an invite.  Not too long after that I was sent my first VoxBox and could say without a doubt that the program was super duper free and legit.  There's never been a dime exchanged between us and I have managed to get a fair number of products to review, use, and in quite a few cases make part of my staple products.  The food in particular has been great.  Even the things that I haven't loved someone in my house (usually my mom) or network really enjoys them.  We all LOVED the Nonni products.  We were sent the THINAddictives and woosah they were amazing which led to the biscotti and other things.  The hair care, skin, and nail products have been good as well to see how my mood and palette work with things I wouldn't have normally bought myself.

I think that's one of the best things about Influenster truth be told.  They don't send you things you'd never use but they attempt to push you beyond your standard fare.  As someone who was committed to doing better this year in that regard Influenster is a big asset to that.  Even when I had an issue because I moved to like super small town in not a Wal-mart kind of state they worked to get me the product so that I could review it and I have to say it's been the best foot care product I've had in a while.  My feet are always silky smooth after I use Freeman Barefoot Spa line.  I heart it.

I have invited quite a few friends to join and I'll be honest for some it's harder to commit to the process of getting products, reviewing them and trying to speak about them in a good honest way.  I talk too much as it is so there's not a huge issue there for me.  I was worried that a negative review would smack me on the hand for future boxes but in my experience they want honest feedback  While the CC cream I was sent didn't match my skin tone in the slightest I was able to say that AND talk about what it was able to do for me regardless.

Best product from them EVER is probably not one that anyone else would think of really.  Last year I was sent a Goody product, I've gotten those before and like the brand outside of reviewing, that was a new Dri Wick like product that was made into a headband.  Now I'm not a super pink kind of gal but i was excited at the idea of this headband as I tend to sweat a LOT and mostly in my scalp when I workout.  If little baby angels could have descended from heaven and sang after that first workout they would have.  While the rest of my body was definitely in sweat mode and my face was glistening no sweat came from my scalp onto my face.  No it doesn't stop my scalp from going yeah exercise and downpour but it definitely isolates it and makes me less of a mess post workout.

All in all I can say it's been a great ride with Influenster and if you are interested and not part of the program yet please let me know.  I'd be happy to invite you.  We can review off into the sunset together.  Like for serious, just let me know.

Have a good night all.

Influenster Loves Me

Ok so maybe that's a reach but after qualifying for their Freeman Beauty VoxBox and not being able to find it here or in the city closest to me I was frustrated and let them know.  Today I got a box of both of the products I could have gotten and I heart them both.  As always Influenster provides products free as long as we review them.  Look over in my side bar if you have never heard of them and click the purple button.  Always full size products and they are normally things you are interested in with some that will expose you to new things.

So I got a bottle of the exfoliating cream and the moisturizer as well.  I'm a sucker for a good exfoliation so that is my favorite so far but I know I wouldn't have to do that as much if I moisturized better all over so I need to step up my game with that as well.  Both smell fantastic though really.  Nothing overpowering, almost powder like.  I love it, not sure if others will but it's a nice clean light scent.  Be sure to check it out if you can find it nearby.

Goodies from Influenster

This may not be a REAL post because it's going to be sharing goodies from my new gift box which normally has nothing to do with hair but in this box actually does and in one of the best ways too. While not the box I was anticipating initially, too much demand not enough boxes it happens, this is a pretty cool VoxBox as well.

This photo is of the entire unboxed package of goodies.  I always seem to end up with random nail polish colors but hey the polish is nice lol.

This is a new clay infused fabric masque from Montagne Jeunnesse.  I really love them.  The masques are usually nice and purifying without being super perfume laced and creepy.  This sample is called Crushed Artic Cloudberries.  It will be my present to myself after I'm done with the grading.

This is the only miss in the box for me.  I love a good healthy treat and have been turned on to some good snacks through Influenster but the Soyjoy did not make me remotely happy.  I don't really like fruit in my chocolate.  It should offend the chocolate Gods on some level to be so muddled up.  The bar itself was fine, the fruit not so much.

This polish is very vibrant green.  Sally Hensen makes fantastic polish and it coats well even if it's not my best shade lol.  It's okay I'll play with it when I see my nieces who will think it's Ninja Turtle green and be fascinated.

The two best items for me in this box are the Dry Shampoo from Not Your Mother's Clean Freak brand.  I haven't needed to use it YET because I'm so freshly out of the beauty show but seriously this may refresh the funk that the sweat can create when I'm working out.  I'll update you on that progress.

But absolutely the best part of the box has been the Goody Quik Style Dry Fit head band.  One of the things I hate about working out is how much the sweat pours from my head down into my eyes and just makes me a great big old mess.  I've used this band three times now and so far my face sweats yes but there's no downpour from my scalp.  It also keeps the sweat off my neck as much too.  And while I was original a little shocked at the bright pink trim I noticed it matched my sneakers and made me feel more coordinated.  I know there's that Keep Your Do head scarf but that feels like I should be tying my hair down for bed even if it works great it's not the aesthetic I'm going for when I get sweaty.  Plus I'm pretty sure when I look like it's time for bed I am more likely to go to bed.  Anyway if you wanted my best endorsement for anything in this box it would definitely be this head band.

There you go.  Updates from the newest cute little purple box of goodies.

All of the products reviewed were provided by Influenster for the purpose of giving honest feedback.

I watched mom buy a honking big tv, what did you do today?

Today started out great and it's kinda wrapping up that way but let me just say the middle made me want to hit people.  I actually went to bed before midnight last night and I slept THROUGH the night.  I didn't wake up till about 7:30 and that was for a potty break.  I stayed up after 8 for some unknown reason but it felt good to not be going to sleep at six in the morning.

I knew I was going to take mom to the store because if I didn't I'd hear whining from here to eternity about how I NEVER (read not the minute she wants to go) take her anywhere (read everywhere under the freaking sun).  Her tantrum started with the trip to the neighborhood market instead of the big Wal-mart and I mean she seriously got out of the car muttering about how they never have what she wants (what she wants usually doesn't actually exist in reality by the way) and never price match anything (and that's never in that it's been so long since she went into neighborhood market she forgot they do it readily).  After that excursion was done it was off to another small chain grocery store--cause she didn't try to price match anything at the neighborhood market--for bacon.  She came out with bacon, fruit, muffins and other crap I couldn't easily detect.  I needed to see if I could find a purse box that I made for my linesisters previously because one went to a bad address and was either tossed or kept but it wasn't returned.  Hobby Lobby let me down so I was ready to pull out and head home before someone wanted fast food.  Before I could even get to the road though she saw a store that just advertised tvs for sale that she remembered as we passed the sign.  I should have said no but since I'm home so much right now I really don't like fighting.  Of course she beelined for the most ridiculously large one and after hemming and hawing and being lied to by the salesman about what smart tvs do and how cable is going to magically disappear in 5 years she purchased a tv that will occupy my living room.  That's not a pun it's freaking huge.  You could serve dinner for six on that thing.  She tried to offer me the 50 inch model--that isn't really 50 inches I don't think--for my room.  Yes we have a 50 inch tv and she wanted yet a bigger one. I said no like I had the previous 12 times it's been offered.  That will have to hang out in her room with her.  I moved the Wii back into my room and I doubt it's returning to the living room because now there's no room for it and I really don't want to support what I see as a ridiculous waste of money.

I'm sure I didn't mention it but I have a new phone interview on Monday.  I'm trying to decide if I want to dye my hair since technically it's on the computer not the phone.  I'm going to share some snaps of my gray, well as much as this camera will capture.  The roots are much more salt and pepper than the length of course but I'm mostly okay with it.  Mom thinks it makes me look older than 37 and that people don't want to hire old people.  I don't look old enough to fall into old people lol but I'll take your feedback.  I'm probably going to see my hairdresser before my next trip for a wash and set.  I'm going to keep on my relaxer schedule.  Despite the up and down part of the day I came home to another round of goodies from Ferrero Rocher and Influenster since I had been such a good blogger during that campaign last fall.  I super love these things when they are cold.  So the other sleeves--yeah I finished one decompressing so sue me lol--are going into the freezer.

Eboost Review--Quickie Ish

Ok so this is the last of the reviews for the Holiday VoxBox I got from Influenster.com.  Eboost looks like a fancy packet of Crystal light honestly.  The packet is just big enough to add to a small ish bottle of matter (about 12 ounces) and then it bubbles up or effervesces for a while before you drink it.  I let it sit a little over five minutes and it was just clear and happy pink lemonade at that point.  I figured since I'd been sick a good pick me up would be fantastic.  And it would be, but this is not it.  There's an odd aftertaste that I really can't explain.  I'd say it was like cold medicine but after having so much of that in the last few days I'm sure that's not the flavor.  It's almost like the fake sugar taste when the packets were first released but I haven't had those in a while either so I can't nail it exactly.  If that taste could be eliminated I'm sure I'd like it more.  The lemonade flavor is tangy and a little tart which I like but this aftertaste keeps it from being something I'm likely going to finish or go purchase.  Another flavor may not have as strong as an aftertaste but this right here is a no go for me.

Overall, I'm glad I was chosen for the VoxBox.  The nails, brush, lip shine, face mask and oatmeal were great big hits.  The shoes were good but run into the same issue for me, found a cute pair or two but my style is so weird and precise what I'm looking for is hard to find online and in stores without paying a mint for.  And this eboost, just not a good flavor thing.  But hey six out of seven is GREAT since it was a total surprise to get it and what would be in it.

Another quickie--KISS Nails Review

So the KISS nails are an adorable pattern and I really wanted to like them a whole whole lot.  But applying them was odd even for me.  All the slicks were too long which is supposed to be rectified by filing down the strips to hit your nails.  I may have been impatient but they didn't seem stiff enough to file at all let alone with my cute baby file that was included in the package.  I do have to give them credit though they were wide enough for my nails and covered them well but it felt like it would need more of a clip down not a file.  Great patterns and rather affordable so if you're not a mani/pedi girl and want something cute to adorn your nails or to match a hot outfit these would be your go to products.  Especially if you have aren't easily frustrated lol.

Just a Quickie--NYC Lip Shine Review

This was another goodie in my Holiday VoxBox from Influenster.  I mentioned it briefly before that I appreciated the color was nude because it gave my lips a pop without being overwhelmingly girly and pink which is what seems to happen when I get nude lip color.  It's thick enough to notice but not so thick you want to pull it off immediately cause it's heavy--well that may be a me thing because I don't typically wear makeup unless I'm getting fancy.  This was more moisturizing than my chapstick too so I'd be more inclined to use this if I remembered to take it with me most of the time lol.  On top of the nice shine and wonderful color it's pretty cheap.  It retails for about 2 bucks in most stores.  Check it out and find a color that loves you.  The lip shine is on the left.  I still need to test out the nail slicks.

Quaker Oats Real Medleys Review

So I told ya'll I wouldn't be eating that sample treat and I didn't cause me and oatmeal not so much.  Unless it's oatmeal cookies and then it's on and popping.  Well mom ate the goodies this afternoon and she was so thrilled with the taste she knocked on my door and asked if I had another one she could eat right now.  Of course I didn't because I only had that one because it was a sample in the Holiday Vox Box from Influenster.  BUT we had to make a run to the store and I went searching them out for her in case she forgot to get them and that's when I saw what COULD be a draw back for some people buying any in the future.  We went to Wal-mart and they had the Medleys for sale as individual packs.  Which wouldn't have been such a big deal except they were 1.58 a piece.  As much as she had been salivating at the house, it quickly turned into a "oh freaky Friday" situation for mom.  Oh and freaky Friday seems to be code for well ain't that a blip.  Her cheap killed picking up any for herself but I grabbed another of the flavor we were sent (Cherry Pistachio) for her just to be nice.  She said it was super flavorful and loved the nuts and fruits mixed in together.  So if you can get them cheaper or find a coupon dive in from mom's point of view.

ETA: That 1.58 appears to be a bargain based on what I saw on Amazon when 12 packs are going for 2 bucks and some change.  If I can get a coupon to print then it will only be a buck a container but I can still see my mom going hmmm baby I don't know about that one.

Goody QuickStyle Brush--Review

Just cowashed my hair after some bad news but I'll get into the bad news tomorrow.  I have to say it wasn't what I thought it would be.  The bristles didn't feel bad on my scalp at all.  Actually they felt like a nice massage which was good.  I can't tell how much water the brush sucked up but it did make it much easier to wrap my hair and set it than normal so that's a good thing.  And it did a great job smoothing the wrap after it was nice and ready for a tie down.  The only down side I can give right now is I felt a little tugging at different points and that felt like tearing.  No one wants their hair to tear when you're brushing and it may have just been because it was my first time using it.  I'll see what happens the next time I use it.

Montagne Jeunesse Face Masque Review

Hey guys well gals,

since mom is still throwing her tantrum and I'm a horrible daughter I don't have to go out on 50 million errands before my flight tomorrow.  I'm going to start on my hair soon but I didn't want to do the face scrub afterwards because I didn't want stray face masque in my hair lol.  As I mentioned last week I got a goodie box from Influenster.com again and this was filled with a variety of things.  One of which was the Montagne Jeunesse Fruit Smoothie face masque.  I figured I'd give my face the million dollar treatment before the interview.  Here's the photo of the sample that I was sent again.  It's on the right in this photo.

So the instructions on the back informed me to wash my face first and then to apply the face masque.  I used my Neutrogena spinning scrubbing thing to clean my face again and then rinsed well before applying the masque. While it was hard to get out, there was a LOT of masque in the sample to use, the masque is very thick which is a good sign to me.  I almost wished it had been in a different package because there was definitely enough in there for me to use twice.  The photo of me with masque on is below.  The first thing I should say is the smell isn't overwhelming.  It's pleasant but not obnoxious so I'm not worried about it lingering.  The masque needs to sit on for 10-15 minutes and then you rinse it off.  The instructions literally say relax while it's on lol.  You definitely get a tingle on your skin while it's working and everything starts to get a little tighter.  The tingle isn't overwhelming either, it kind of just feels like things are being pulled into the masque to take them off/out of your skin.  The tightening is a bit more apparent.  The relax directive could be because the more you try to move your face the more the masque seems intent on not letting that happen.  Every facial movement is moving the masque a bit lol.  It's been an eon since I've used a facial masque even though I try to stay up on my cleansing regimen in general.  I'm actually still wearing it for another few minutes and it doesn't feel like a peel off masque so I'll let you know about the scrubbing.

So the masque is off now and it wasn't a peel off lol.  But it did flake up easily and came off pretty easily with a face cloth and warm water.  My skin doesn't look dramatically different but it feels nice and refreshed.  The smell of fruit is lingering but not in a way that's bothering me and believe me when I say I have a super sensitive nose so if it was overpowering it wouldn't work for me at all.

Final verdict: Definitely invest in it if you need a good masque.  The 0.7 ounce size easily could work for more than one application especially if you can seal it up or transfer it to an empty clean container.  My skin also feels pretty smooth which is nice as well.  Since I need a good masque this will be a product I go hunting for on my next shopping trip.  The others I saw didn't seem to be doing a whole lot.  I'd love it if this was a peel off cause I'm lazy but that's a small sacrifice if your skin is ultimately gorgeous.  Either way I'm glad this is one of the products that came in the Holiday VoxBox and thanks both to influenster and Montagne Jeunesse.

Holiday VoxBox--Influenster LOVES me

Okay love may be overly dramatic.  I don't think Influenster knows me well enough to love me but it likes me a lot.  Today my third box from them arrived and I have to say it's a good mix of things considering how weird I am.  I'll be honest and say there's only one thing I won't personally use in the box and that's the oatmeal.  I really hate oatmeal.  But thankfully I live with someone that loves it and she has promised to give me a stellar review once she gobbles it all up.  I'm going to show you photos of everything right now and whenever I use the products in the box I'll be sure to give each their own review.  And after each photo I'll let you know what something is.  I did try the lip gloss and loved it.  It's shiny and moist without making your lips look like WOOOOOO stare at me.

 Welcome Card from Influenster

Coupon from Sole Society--have to sign up and I was feeling lazy so haven't done this one yet but can't beat 25 bucks off.
